The Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) World Heavyweight Championship is the primary championship in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA).
When TNA was originally formed they used the NWA World Heavyweight Championship as the promotion was initially a National Wrestling Alliance promotion, but in 2007 the NWA decided to separate from TNA as the NWA championships were not being defended outside the promotion so TNA created the TNA World Heavyweight Championship when the NWA titles were returned and all champions of the NWA World Heavyweight Championship while it was in TNA are now referred to as TNA World Champions.
Current champion
AJ Styles is the current champion in his first reign. He defeated the previous champion, Kurt Angle, and three other contenders— Sting, Hernandez, and Matt Morgan —in a Five-Way match on September 20, 2009 at TNA's No Surrender 2009 PPV event.
