Steel chairs will be perfectly legal tools of destruction when reigning U.S. Champion Alberto Del Rio faces familiar rival Jack Swagger in a newly announced Chairs Match at WWE TLC this Sunday.
The title bout will happen mere days after Del Rio turned his back on his closest supporter, former Swagger ally Zeb Colter. On the Dec. 7 edition of Raw, WWE cameras caught a locker room confrontation between Colter and Del Rio, which ended when the U.S. Champion threw a chair in the direction of the scooter-bound Colter. Moments earlier at ringside, Swagger had shown concern for his onetime manager, warning Colter to disassociate himself from Del Rio.
Del Rio’s callous actions toward Colter may have only made Swagger more irate than he was before. The Real American was already infuriated by Del Rio’s inflammatory words against the WWE Universe that, until this past week on Raw, had been echoed by Colter.
The war of words turned physical when Del Rio and Swagger met on the Dec. 3 episode of SmackDown. An aggressive Swagger brought the fight to the U.S. Champion, so much so that Del Rio resorted to bringing a steel chair into the contest, resulting in a disqualification.
This Sunday, however, the same action will be not only legal — but encouraged — as the two decorated Superstars clash in a Chairs Match. Will the devious Del Rio stomp past his challenger? Or will perennial threat Swagger, a 6-foot-7, hard-edged hoss, reclaim the title he held once before?
