Background
SummerSlam will feature professional wrestling matches that involve different wrestlers from pre-existing feuds, plots, and storylines that will be played out on WWE's primary television programs. Wrestlers will portray villains or heroes as they follow a series of events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches.
When Triple H returned on the April 30, 2012 episode of Raw, he told Brock Lesnar that he will only accept the original contract Lesnar agreed upon re-signing with WWE, before having his arm broken by Lesnar. It was later announced on WWE.com that, in addition to a broken arm, Triple H had suffered severe ligament and tendon damage around the elbow and that it required surgery. Triple H later appeared at No Way Out, not only addressing Lesnar and the lawsuits brought against WWE, but also challenging him at SummerSlam, in exchange for his dropping the lawsuits that his legal representative, Paul Heyman, made against WWE and Triple H. On the June 18 episode of Raw, Heyman made an appearance, rejecting Triple H's challenge on behalf of Lesnar. After further goading from Heyman, Triple H attacked him. On the 1000th episode of Raw, Heyman again declined the challenge. However, after Stephanie McMahon slapped him, Heyman accepted the match on behalf of Lesnar.
