Who is the superior tag team: The unit that possesses the WWE Tag Team Titles or the duo that won the Slammy Award for Tag Team of the Year? The WWE Universe will find out this Sunday at Royal Rumble, when The Usos challenge The New Day for the WWE Tag Team Championship.
The bout pits Big E, Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods against arguably their biggest threat, and the one team that was absent during much of The New Day’s rise to championship glory, Jimmy & Jey Uso.
This match also carries personal overtones, as The New Day took credit for injuring Jey Uso’s shoulder last April — an injury that kept The Usos out of tag team competition for many months. Despite that period of inactivity as a team, Jimmy & Jey were still named the 2015 Slammy Tag Team of the Year by the WWE Universe, much to the chagrin of The New Day.
The Usos’ solidified their claim as top contenders on the Jan. 11 edition of Raw when the twin Superstars, who had a trombone-destroying Chris Jericho in their corner, defeated The New Day’s Big E & Kingston in non-title action.
