At Night of Champions, The New Day will defend the WWE Tag Team Championship against the returning Dudley Boyz as they seek to increase their already unbelievable championship résumé.
The New Day regained the championships when they outwitted three other teams at SummerSlam in an action-packed Fatal 4-Way Match. They prevailed again the next night on Raw, but Kofi Kingston, Big E and Xavier Woods’ trombone-aided celebration was short lived as a bombshell dropped on the entire WWE Universe and sports-entertainment's most decorated tag team of all time, The Dudley Boyz, returned.
The New Day was shocked by the appearance of Bubba Ray & D-Von and had no answer for the Extreme Originals’ onslaught. The Dudleys whipped the crowd into an absolute frenzy, cleaning house and finally putting New Day's resident hype-man, Woods, through a table with a thunderous 3D to send a very clear message to not only the champs, but the entire division: The Dudley Boyz were back and gunning for the gold.
The brothers Dudley parlayed the momentum of their return, picking up multiple impressive victories — including a non-title match against the champions — and firmly positioning themselves as the No. 1 contenders for the titles. Meanwhile, even while entrenched in their #SaveTheTables campaign — an effort to prevent The Dudleys from using their trademark toy — The New Day retained their championships against The Prime Time Players on the season premiere of Raw, setting up a colossal collision with Bubba Ray & D-Von at Night of Champions.
