NXT UK was a professional wrestling television program produced by WWE. The show featured competitors from WWE's NXT UK brand. The show was officially announced during the 2018 United Kingdom Championship Tournament. The final episode of NXT UK aired on September 1, 2022, following the announcement that NXT UK would be replaced by NXT Europe in 2023.
History[]
In a press conference at The O2 Arena on December 15, 2016, "Triple H" Paul Levesque revealed that there would be a 16-man tournament to crown the inaugural WWE United Kingdom Champion. The tournament was held over a two-day period, January 14 and 15, 2017, and aired exclusively on the WWE Network. At the time, it was stated that the championship would be the centerpiece of a new U.K.-based show produced in the U.K., but since the inaugural tournament, it was defended on NXT as well as at independent shows in the United Kingdom. The name of the show, NXT UK, and its premiere was finally revealed during the 2018 United Kingdom Championship Tournament. On June 7, 2018, Johnny Saint was appointed General Manager of WWE's United Kingdom-based brand.
WWE announced that NXT UK, a new weekly episodic series featuring the greatest male and female competitors from the U.K., will stream on WWE Network on Wednesdays, beginning Oct. 17 at 8 p.m. BT/3 p.m. ET.
The one-hour episodes featured the biggest names from NXT UK, including Pete Dunne, Mark Andrews, Rhea Ripley, Toni Storm, Tyler Bate, Trent Seven and Wolfgang. Joining the NXT UK broadcasting team as backstage interviewer is British broadcasting personality Radzi Chinyanganya, best known for hosting ITV game show "Cannonball," and in his ongoing role as a presenter of the world's longest-running children's TV show, the BBC's "Blue Peter." Calling the action are commentators Nigel McGuinness and Vic Joseph, joined by ring announcer Andy Shepherd and NXT UK General Manager, the legendary Johnny Saint.
On August 18, 2022, it was announced by WWE that NXT UK would begin a hiatus in September and return in 2023 as NXT Europe. The final NXT UK episode aired on September 1, 2022.
