Edouard Carpentier was the 5th man to hold the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. He won it June 14th 1957 from Lou Thesz, who had suffered a back injury and was unable to continue the match. It remained in dispute for this reason.

Lou won it back July 24 that same year.
