With just days until SummerSlam, WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos kicked off WWE Main Event seemingly unconcerned with facing an open challenge later in the evening. Scheduled to defend the titles by The Authority, RybAxel first declared their desire to answer the challenge but Rob Van Dam and Sheamus also answered the challenge.
As RybAxel argued with RVD and The Celtic Warrior, Director of Operations Kane made his way into Seattle’s Key Arena and announced the match would be a Triple Threat for the WWE Tag Team Championships.
Poised to make an example out of Kofi Kingston and send a message to his SummerSlam opponent – Dean Ambrose – Seth Rollins attacked with ferociousness.. Mr. Money in the Bank faces his former Shield cohort in a Lumberjack Match at SummerSlam, but Rollins used WWE Main Event as a platform to show off his aggressiveness.
Although Kingston rallied and nearly claimed victory on a few occasions, Rollins seized an opportunity to execute his Curb Stomp for the win.
Facing unenviable odds, The Usos ran the risk of losing the WWE Tag Team Titles without being the losing team in a Tag Team Triple Threat Match.. Adding to the uncertainty, any legal competitor could tag in any member of any team.
The Usos’ remained resilient throughout the contest, displaying their in-ring awareness in an effort to keep track of who was the legal man inside the ring. The rules of the match ultimately played in The Usos’ favor as Jimmy Uso tagged himself in by way of Curtis Axel, allowing himself to connect with a Superfly splash from the top rope after RVD hit Axel with the Five Star Frog Splash. Retaining the titles, The Usos were congratulated by Sheamus and RVD after the bout.
