American Alpha is a professional wrestling tag team performing in WWE's development branch, NXT. The team is composed of former amateur wrestlers Jason Jordan and Chad Gable. They are the current WWE Smackdown Tag Team Champions in their first reign and are a former one-time NXT Tag Team Champions.
WWE NXT (2015-present)
During Spring 2015, Jason Jordan has left his partnership with Tye Dillinger, and so out a new tag team partner, which led to him competing in one time only tag match with other NXT competitor's such as Sylvester Lefort. Over the course those week's Chad Gable backstage, kept trying to coax Jordan into forming a team with him, only to be denied.
At NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn, Jordan who collectively teamed with Gable and The Mechanics (Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson), was defeated by the team of The Realest Guys and The Hype Bros in a match that took place prior to the main show. On September 2, Jordan and Gable competed in the first round of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament, beating the team of Neville and Solomon Crowe. After defeating The Hype Bros, they would get eliminated from the tournament, by the team of Baron Corbin and Rhyno. On the November 18 episode of NXT, Jordan and Gable would call out main roster tag team The Ascension and defeat them. On the December 2 episode of NXT, Jordan and Gable would face another pair of former NXT Tag Team Champions The Vaudevillains and defeat them as well. On the January 8 of NXT tapings, the team of Jordan and Gable began using the name "American Alpha".
American Alpha faced off with the Vaudevillians on the March 16th episode of NXT in a Number 1 contenders match where they emerged victorious, earning them a match for the against the NXT Tag Team Championship Dash and Dawson at NXT TakeOver: Dallas. The pair won the NXT Tag Team Championship at the event. They defeated Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady on the April 20th episode.
