Alexis "Lexi" Kaufman (August 9, 1991) is an American bodybuilder and professional wrestler currently signed to WWE under the ring name Alexa Bliss, performing on the SmackDown brand. She is a one-time WWE Women's Champion.
Kaufman has been involved in sports since age five, competing softball, track and kickboxing and gymnastics. She also spent time in competitive bodybuilding, placing 14th at the 2013 Arnold Classic held in her home state of Ohio. It was around that time when Kaufman attracted the eyes of the professional wrestling community.
Professional Wrestling Career
World Wrestling Entertainment (2013-Present)
Kaufman signed a developmental contract with World Wrestling Entertainment during April 2013. She was sent to the company’s developmental program NXT where she began working by her first ring name of Alexa Bliss. She made her debut at the June 20, 2013 NXT tapings, coming into the ring with other Divas to congratulate Paige on winning the first ever NXT Women's Championship. At a NXT live event on August 8, she appeared with a county girl gimmick and a love interest of Scott Dawson. She made her in-ring debut at an NXT live event on September 20, 2013, where she, Emma and Sasha Banks were defeated by Bayley, Paige and Kendall Skye. She made her singles match debut at a NXT live event in November 2013, where she was defeated by Sasha Banks. Bliss appeared as a ring announcer on the November 20 edition of NXT.
On March 21, 2014, Bliss competed as a villainess at an NXT live event; teaming with Sasha Banks and Charlotte in a losing effort to Paige, Emma, and Bayley. Bliss made her televised in-ring debut on the May 8 edition of NXT as a babyface and defeated Alicia Fox in the first round of the NXT Women's Championship Tournament. She was defeated by Charlotte in the semifinals on the following edition of NXT. On the June 19 edition of NXT, Bliss defeated Sasha Banks in singles action.
After an injury-related hiatus, Bliss returned on the March 11, 2015 episode of NXT, defeating Carmella. The following week, she defeated NXT Women's Champion Sasha Banks by count-out. This led to Bliss being granted a championship match against Banks on March 25, which she lost.
Bliss began showing signs of a heel turn on the April 30 episode of NXT, when she confronted Carmella in a backstage segment, only to have NXT Tag Team Champions Blake and Murphy come to her aid. On the May 13 episode of NXT, Bliss defeated Carmella after Blake and Murphy set up a distraction. On May 20, at NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable, Bliss attacked Carmella and helped Blake and Murphy retain their championships against Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady, turning Bliss into a villainess.
On the June 3 episode of NXT, Bliss once again defeated Carmella, with Blake and Murphy in her corner.
Main roster (2016–present)
On July 19, Bliss was drafted to the SmackDown brand as a part of the 2016 WWE Draft. Bliss made her main roster debut for the brand on July 26, where she confronted Becky Lynch before being interrupted by the brand female talents. Two weeks later, Bliss achieved her first victory on the main roster by defeating Lynch after she replaced Eva Marie in the match on the August 9 episode of SmackDown. Bliss made her her pay–per–view debut at SummerSlam in a six—woman tag team match when she teamed with Natalya and Nikki Bella in a winning effort against Naomi, Lynch and Carmella.
Bliss debuted a new look based on Harley Quinn from the film Suicide Squad, competing in a six-pack elimination challenge to determine the inaugural WWE SmackDown Women's Champion, ultimately won by Becky Lynch. Two days later on the September 13 episode of SmackDown, Bliss won a fatal five–way match by pinning Nikki Bella to earn a Women's Championship match against Lynch at No Mercy. However, due to Lynch suffering a legitimate injury, the match was rescheduled for the November 8 episode of SmackDown. Lynch successfully defended the title against Bliss, albeit in controversial fashion, as the referee did not see Bliss' foot on the bottom rope when she submitted to Lynch's finishing maneuver. On the November 15 episode of SmackDown, Raw Women's Champion Charlotte appeared at ringside during a match between Nikki Bella and Carmella, which ensued a brawl between all members of the Raw women's team, with the SmackDown women's team making the save. At the Survivor Series pay-per-view, the SmackDown women's team lost to the Raw women's team. On the November 22 episode of SmackDown, Bliss was informed by SmackDown Live Commissioner Shane McMahon that her rematch against Lynch for the SmackDown Women's Championship would be scheduled for the TLC pay-per-view. At the event, Bliss defeated Becky Lynch in a tables match and became the new Smackdown Women's Champion. A storyline began where both Lynch and Bliss used a new gimmick called "La Luchadora" to face each other in matches while trying to conceal their identities. As the feud with Lynch intensified, another lady wearing a La Luchadora costume began assisting Bliss. On the 17 January edition of SmackDown, Lynch lost a steel cage title match due to La Luchadora assaulting her. Then Lynch unmasked La Luchadora, to reveal the returning Mickie James was the one behind the recent attacks, with James having reverted to a heel. Bliss and James then left Lynch laying. Bliss lost her title to Naomi at Elimination Chamber.
In January 2017, it was revealed that Kaufman is engaged to fellow wrestler Matthew Adams, better known by his ring name Buddy Murphy.
